Amaç: Araştırmada 'kordon kanı bankacılığı' hakkında eğitim alan ve almayan ebelik öğrencilerinin kordon kanı bankacılığına ilişkin görüş ve yaklaşımlarının değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Kesitsel tipte, iki gruplu yapılan araştırmanın evrenini Ege Üniversitesi Sağlık Yüksekokulu Ebelik Bölümü öğrencileri oluşturmuştur. Örnekleme alınan öğrenciler, lisans eğitimleri sırasında 'kordon kanı bankacılığı' konusunda eğitim almış ve henüz eğitim almamış ebelik öğrencileridir. Eğitim, Ege Üniversitesi Kordon Kanı, Hücre-Doku Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi biriminden bir uzman tarafından interaktif olarak dört saatlik zaman diliminde verilmiştir. Veriler; tanıtıcı bilgiler ile kordon kanı ve bankacılığına yönelik soruların yer aldığı anket formu ile elde edilmiştir. Bulgular: Öğrencilerin, kordon kanı ve bankacılığı konusunda üniversite eğitimleri sırasında bilgi aldıklarını ve üniversite derslerinden bilgi edindiklerini belirtenlerin oranının eğitim alan grupta yüksek olduğu gözlenmiştir. Klinik uygulamalar sırasında kordon kanı ve bankacılığına yönelik kendilerinden bilgi almak isteyen kadınların sıklığının eğitim alan grupta daha yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir. Her iki gruptaki öğrencilerin, kordon kanı bankasında ebe olarak çalışmayı istedikleri belirlenmiştir. Sonuç: Verilen eğitim, ebelik öğrencilerinde kordon kanı ve bankacılığı konusunda farkındalık oluşturmuştur. Bu nedenle eğitim alan ebelik öğrencilerinin büyük çoğunluğunun kordon kanı ve bankacılığı konusunda daha detaylı bir eğitim almak istedikleri saptanmıştır.

Objective: The present study was aimed at investigating midwifery students' opinions of and approaches towards cord blood banking who had training on cord blood banking and who did not. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional and two-grouped study was consisted of students studying at the Ege University School of Health Midwifery Department. Of the students in the sample, who did not have training on cord blood banking yet and students who already had training on cord blood banking during their undergraduate education. The interactive training was given the specialist in his field in the Ege University Application and Research Center of Cord Blood Cell-Tissue for four hours. The study data were collected with a questionnaire including on the sociodemographic characteristics of the participants, cord blood and cord blood banking. Results: The results demonstrated that the participants heard of cord blood and banking for the during their university education. The rate of those who received information from university courses was high in the training group. In the present study, during the clinical practices, the number of women who wanted to obtain information about cord blood and cord blood banking was higher in the participants who received training than that in the participants who did not receive training. Students in both groups were determined to want to work as a midwife in cord blood bank. Conclusion: Training on cord blood and banking given to the participating students raised their awareness of the issue. Therefore, it was determined that the majority of midwifery students who received training wanted to receive a more detailed training on cord blood and banking.
