ABSTRACT
Objective: It was conducted in a descriptive manner to determine the professional readiness and perceived stress levels of senior nursing students who mainly receive distance education. Material and Methods: The sample of the study consisted of students studying in the nursing department of a university (n=117) who volunteered to participate in the research. Personal Information Form, Nursing Professional Readiness Perception Scale (NPRPS) and Perceived Stress Scale for Nursing Students (PSSNS) were used to collect research data. Number, frequency, percentage, mean, minimum, maximum, median, standard deviation, Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis test were used to evaluate the data. The findings were evaluated with a 95% confidence interval and an error level of 0.05. Results: The average age of the students is 22.70±1.26. It was determined that 68.4% of the students were women, 79.5% chose the nursing profession willingly, 84.6% liked the nursing profession, and 47.9% of them chose the nursing profession because of the higher probability of finding a job. The students' mean NPRPS score was found to be 3.88±0.99 and their PSSNS mean score was 52.95±30.26. It was determined that the mean score of the NPRPS professional adaptation and professional competence subscale was 3.71±1.04, the mean score of the communication and cooperation subdimension was 4.07±1.04, and the mean score of the NPRPS total score was 3.88±0.99. It was determined that the perceived stress while caring for the patient was the highest with an average score of 15.12±8.39. A negative and weak correlation (r=-0.322; p=0.729) was detected between the students' perception of readiness for the profession and their average perceived stress score, but no statistical significance was found (p>0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that the professional readiness level of senior nursing students was high and their perceived stress was low.
