Amaç: Bu araştırmanın amacı, antrenörlerin sporcunun ailesine yönelik algılarının metafor yöntemi ile belirlenmesidir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Seksen dokuz erkek ve 40 kadından oluşan toplam 129 antrenör gönüllü olarak bu araştırmaya katılmıştır. Veriler, araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanan anket formu ile elde edilmiştir. Anket formunda, kişisel bilgilere ilişkin sorulara ek olarak, antrenörlerin sporcunun ailesi kavramına yönelik algılarını belirlemek amacıyla ''Sporcunun ailesi'gibidir çünkü..'' cümlesini tamamlamaları istenmiştir. Araştırmada elde edilen verilerin analizi ve yorumlanması sürecindeki aşamalar sırasıyla; metaforların belirlenmesi, metaforların sınıflandırılması, kategori geliştirme, geçerlik ve güvenirliği sağlama ve verilerin analizdir. Bulgular: Antrenörlerin, ''sporcunun ailesi'' kavramı için oluşturdukları tüm ifadelerin incelenmesi sonucunda, 99 farklı metafor elde edilmiştir. En çok kullanılan metaforların ''toprak (5), taraftar (5), çiftçi (5), tribün (4), antrenör (4), çınar ağacı (4), ağacın kökleri (2)'' gibi olumlu metaforlar olduğu belirlenirken; ''kene, haşere, padişah, kontrol memuru, rampa ve müşteri'' gibi olumsuz anlam içeren metaforların da kullanıldığı tespit edilmiştir. Elde edilen metafor cümleleri anlamsal olarak kategorize edildiğinde, 13 kategori oluşmuştur. Bu kategoriler; destekleyici, yol gösteren/yönlendiren, olumsuz olan, temel yapı olan, ekibin bir parçası olan, öğretici geliştirici olan, güven veren, olumlu ya da olumsuz olabilen, dayanıklı olan/olması gereken, çabalayan/çabalaması gereken, sporcuyu tanıyan, rol model olan ve diğer olarak belirlenmiştir. Sonuç: Araştırma sonuçları genel olarak değerlendirildiğinde, antrenörlerin sporcu ailelerini birçok açıdan olumlu olarak algıladıkları söylenebilir. Öte yandan antrenörlerin, sporcuların aileleri ile ilgili olarak çeşitli olumsuz algılarının da olduğu belirlenmiştir.

Objective: The aim of this research was to determine coaches' perception regarding athlete's parents via metaphor. Material and Methods: Eighty nine men and 40 women as a total of 129 coaches voluntarily participated to this research. The data was obtained by a questionnaire prepared by the researchers. In this questionnaire, in addition to the demographic questions, coaches were asked to complete the sentence 'athlete's parent is'because..'' to determine their perceptions regarding athlete's parents. The analysis and interpretation were carried out by the following steps respectively; determination of metaphors, classification of metaphors, category development, providing validity and reliability and analysing the data. Results: A total of 99 different metaphors were obtained. The most used metaphors were 'soil (5), sports fan (5), farmer (5), tribune (4), coach (4), plane tree (4) and tree's roots. Also the metaphors with negative meanings such as tick, insect, sultan, control officer, ramp, customer etc. were also used. Categorizing the metaphors according to their meanings revealed 13 categories; supportive, guiding/directing, negative, being basic structure, being a part of the team, being instructional/developer, reassuring, being positive or negative, being enduring, making effort, knowing the athlete, role model and other. Conclusion: Overall, the results showed that coaches positively perceive athlete's parents however coaches' negative perceptions for athlete's parents regarding various issues were also determined.
