Objective: The aim of the research is to explain the barriers in the practice of skin contact by health professionals after birth. Material and Methods: Twelve participants from health professionals constitute the sample of the research in descriptive phenomenological design. February-March 2020 data of the study was collected with individual in-depth interviews, using a semi-structured interview form and form personal information. The content analysis method was used in the analysis of the data. Results: The ages of the 12 participants who participated in the study ranged from 26 to 52. Education level of the participants have associate 2 degree, 3 undergraduate and 7 graduate. Seven themes and 12 sub-themes were obtained from the analysis of the interviews. Barriers for mothers the main theme is unwilling mothers, unwanted pregnancy, general health status and chronic disease in the mother and vernix caseosa in the newborn sub-themes are.
