Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, sağlık bilimlerinin farklı alanlarından öğrenci ve profesyonellerin koronavirüs hastalığı-2019'a [coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19)] bakış açısını ve empati düzeylerini karşılaştırmaktır. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Çalışma; 18 yaş ve üzeri, araştırmaya katılmaya gönüllü olan, farklı üniversitelerden lisans veya ön lisans düzeyinde sağlık alanında eğitim gören öğrenciler ile lisans veya ön lisans sağlık eğitimi veren kurumlardan mezun olmuş sağlık profesyonellerinden 181 birey ile çevrim içi anket yoluyla gerçekleştirildi. Katılımcıların genel bilgileri, COVID-19'a bakış açıları (COVID-19 ilk bulaş yolu, ilk belirtiler, koruyucu ekipman tercihi, bağışıklık güçlendirme yöntemleri ve pandemi süreci ile ilgili bilgileri takip platformu) ve empati düzeyleri [Toronto Empati Ölçeği (TEÖ)] değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Sağlık profesyonellerinin, COVID-19'lu hasta ile teması, öğrencilere göre anlamlı olarak fazla bulundu (p0,05). Eklem ağrıları ile koku ve tat kaybı belirtilerinin, sağlık profesyonelleri tarafından istatistiksel olarak daha fazla bildirildiği görüldü (p=0,006; p=0,002; p=0,010). Bağışıklık güçlendirme yöntemleri ve TEÖ skorlarında, öğrenciler ve sağlık profesyonelleri arasında anlamlı bir fark görülmedi (p>0,05). Sonuç: Çalışmamızda, sağlık bilimlerinin farklı alanlarından öğrenci ve sağlık profesyonellerinin, COVID-19 bakış açılarının ve empati düzeylerinin çoğunlukla benzer olduğu görüldü. Pandemi döneminde sağlık profesyonelleri ile öğrencilerin bakış açılarını ve empati düzeylerini inceleyen daha geniş kapsamlı çalışmalar yapılmasını ve eğitim-öğretimde sağlık ve empati ilişkisine daha fazla yer verilmesi gerektiğini düşünmekteyiz.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the perspective of students and professionals from different fields of health sciences on coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) and to compare their empathy levels. Material and Methods: The study was carried out through an online questionnaire with 181 individuals aged 18 and over, volunteering to participate in the study, students from different universities studying in the field of health at the undergraduate or associate degree level, and health professionals graduated from institutions providing undergraduate or associate degree health education. Participants' general information, perspective of COVID-19 (first transmission route of COVID-19, first symptoms, protective equipment preferences, immune enhancement methods and information tracking platform on the pandemic process) and empathy status [Toronto Empathy Questionnaire (TEQ)] were evaluated. Results: The contact of health professionals with the patient with COVID-19 was found to be significantly higher than the students (p0.05). It was observed that joint pains and symptoms of loss of smell and taste were statistically more frequently reported by healthcare professionals (p=0.006, p=0.002, p=0.010). There were no significant differences between students and healthcare professionals in immune enhancement methods and TEQ scores (p>0.05). Conclusion: In our study, the perspective to COVID-19 and empathy levels of students and health professionals from different fields of health sciences were mostly similar. We think that more comprehensive studies should be conducted to examine the perspectives and empathy levels of health professionals and students during the pandemic period and the relationship between health and empathy should be included more in education.
