Professions cannot meet their needs by themselves or find solutions to their problems, so, members of a profession need to gain professional power by gathering in a mutual platform and making themselves heard effectively. There are several associations related to nursing on national and international levels. Associations contribute to the development of a profession by determi-ning professional quality standards. However, in the literature, it was stated that nurses are inadequate and indifferent in terms of knowing about associations and becoming members of associations. This situation prevents achievement of unity and solidarity in nursing and defending rights, and it leads nurses to fall short in decision-making processes related to the profession. It also prevents the profession from becoming an effective power. Establishing professional roles, principles and policies and determining ethical rules are possible if associations are active. An important factor that determines the activeness of an organization is organizational engagement. Studies have reported that, in cases where organizational engagement levels are high, there are increases in job satisfaction and decreases in quitting jobs and labor force turnover. Low levels of organizational engagement in members lead to avoiding work, increased levels of quitting jobs, problems in communication with other members, failure to act in line with the objectives of the organization and observation of unwanted behaviors at the workplace. This is why the organizational engagement of employees will contribute to paying more importance to professional relationships and developing unity and solidarity among the members.
