Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the color and translucency changes that occur in composite resins by keeping 2 different composite resin samples in different beverages for 3 different time periods. Material and Methods: Two resin-based composites were used in present study: an universal nanohybrid composite Palfique Omnichroma (OMN), and a nanohybrid resin Estelite Sigma Quick (ESQ). In order to evaluate the color stability of the composites, ESQ composite in 3 different colors, A1, B2 and C3, and single color OMN composite were used. Ninety cylindrical specimens were prepared for each material (2 mm in thickness, 6 mm in diameter). After the baseline color measurements were taken, the samples were kept in different beverages such as distilled water, red wine and coffee. After baseline measurements, 24 hours, 1 week and 1 month measurement were taken respectively. All color measurements were performed according to the CIEDE2000 color coordinates with a clinical spectrophotometer. The translucency parameter (TP) was used to evaluate changes in translucency. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to analyze the normality of the data. Differences between ΔE00 and ΔTP values of samples immersed in different solutions were analyzed by independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance and Tukey honest significance test post-hoc tests. Repeated measure analysis of variance test was used to determine the time dependent changes of ΔE00 and TP values. Results: A statistically significant difference was found between ∆E values as a result of keeping the A1 and B2 colored samples of both composites in distilled water and other coloring beverages for the same time (p<0.05). Conclusion: Coloring beverages caused coloration in both composite resins, independent of the physicochemical properties of the composites. In both nanohybrid composites, there is no difference between the discoloration that occurs in the coloring beverages over all time periods.
