ABSTRACT
The study was conducted to evaluate the attitudes and approaches of university students to ethical problems related to assisted reproductive techniques (ART). The sample of the descriptive and cross-sectional study consisted of 604 students studying in the nursing and social sciences departments of a university. As a data collection tool, a questionnaire consisting of 28 questions prepared by the researcher in the light of the literature was used. Data were evaluated by descriptive statistics, t test, Mann-Whitney U test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. The positive response to surrogacy was 46% in general, 69% due to uterine problems; positive response to having a child with sperm/egg donation is 52% in general, and 68% due to health problems. Secondary or higher education level of mother, presence of a person who was conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF) among the students or their siblings makes a significant difference on the total and 2 sub-dimension attitude score averages towards ART; secondary or higher education level of father increases the attitude towards the sperm/egg bank subdimension score average, and being female increases the attitude towards surrogacy sub-dimension score average. It is clear that the acceptability of surrogate motherhood and having a child with sperm/egg donation is at a moderate level. It has also been determined that unlike the presence of a person conceived through IVF within the family/relative/close friend circle, having a child with IVF technique in a nuclear family contributes to developing a positive attitude towards ART.
