ABSTRACT
Objective: Justice is an internal motive that regulates interpersonal relations, allowing individuals to react to life events and sustain their lives. This motive manifests itself as a belief in a just world which enables people to perceive their environment secure to live in and get things in order. Belief in a just world of the judicial staff has a significant effect on their professional life given the fact that they spend a significant amount of their life on topics related to justice and they play an essential role to sustain people's sense of justice. In this regard, the present study aims to focus on the professional and personal life of judicial staff by investigating belief in a just world in a large sample. Material and Methods: The data of the present study collected from 378 judicial staff (e.g., lawyers, judges and prosecutors, social workers, clerks of the court, correction officers, experts, administrative officers). In addition) 62 people working in state institutions under the Ministry of Health were used as the comparison group. The data were collected via a demographic information form developed by the researcher and Belief in a Just World Scale. Results: Results revealed that judicial staff mostly prefer to work in this area to have guaranteed employment (46%) and if they had a chance to choose a profession again, they mostly would not choose this field (43.7%). It's observed that belief in a just world level decreases in long-term workers in judicial field and and who want to work in another job in the future. Also, belief in a just world levels of the judicial staff were significantly higher than health professionals. Conclusion: As the working time in the judicial field increases, the level of belief in a just world decreases. It's important that, for a fair and powerful justice system, working conditions of the judicial staff need to be improved.
