ABSTRACT
While the mother has semantic roles within the family, social or traditional roles are associated with the father. While the father is the person who covers the material needs within the Turkish society; mother is the person who organizes housework, childcare and the emotional life of the family. Many factors affect the father's approach to his children like the gender of the child, the satisfaction of his job and his salary, the educational status, and the working status. In the past, the duty of the father was perceived as providing only financial resource and applying discipline; however, nowadays, this duty is perceived as participation in child's life and caretaking. The father's support to the mother and the interaction between them help the mother to ease her tension and help her adopt her role. The father has an important place in the child's personality development because of the identity pattern of the father. It was observed that the communication and attachment between the father and the child influence the child's future academic life, social life, and social and emotional development. The basic attachment in many babies may occur between the mother as well as the father. Family-centered caretaking is also a very influential method to ensure that the child has a good communication and attachment. The nurse should provide education to the family about family-centered caretaking and should make sure that the family is competent in education.
