Objective: In this study, the relationship between cardiovascular disease risk knowledge level and sleep quality in individuals with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) was evaluated. Material and Methods: The study was conducted with 208 individuals diagnosed with T2DM who met the research criteria in the internal medicine and endocrinology outpatient clinics of a state hospital in the Marmara region between April and June 2023. Data were collected through faceto-face interviews conducted by the researcher using a Personal Information Form, Cardiovascular Disease Risk Knowledge Level Scale, and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. One-way analysis of variance, ttest, correlation analysis, and mediation analysis were used for data analysis. Results: It was found that participants between the ages of 45-55, male, with sleep duration less than seven hours, uncontrolled glycemic and lipid levels, and having T2DM for less than ten years had poor sleep quality and inadequate awareness of cardiovascular disease risks (p<0.001). As awareness of cardiovascular diseases increased, sleep quality showed a 64.6% improvement, while inadequate awareness of cardiovascular disease in individuals with T2DM for less than ten years increased the susceptibility to poor sleep quality by 12.4% (p<0.001). Conclusion: It is observed that individuals between the ages of 45-55, male, with irregular glycemic and lipid levels, and having T2DM for less than ten years have poor sleep quality and insufficient knowledge about potential cardiovascular diseases. It is recommended that nurses address individuals with T2DM specifically for the first ten years of the disease, focusing on poor sleep quality and the cardiovascular complications it may cause.
