Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between trunk muscle strength and sit and reach flexibility in athletes. Material and Methods: The study was carried out with 328 athletes (125 females, 203 males) with a mean age of 18±2 years, mean body weight of 65.75±14.65 kg and a mean length of 1.72±0.10 m. Trunk flexor-extensor and trunk rotator muscle strength of the athletes were evaluated with isokinetic dynamometer and the flexibility of the trunk and legs was assessed by sit and reach test. Results: As a result of our study, it was found that there was a moderate positive correlation between trunk flexor and extensor muscles strength and sit and reach flexibility of female athletes (r:325-351; p<0.05), but there was no significant relationship between trunk right-left rotator muscles strength and sit and reach flexibility. When the male athletes and all athletes were examined, it was found that there was no significant relationship between trunk flexor and extensor muscles strength, trunk right-left rotator muscles strength and sit and reach flexibility. Conclusion: As a result of our study, it was found that there was no significant relationship between trunk muscle strength and sit and reach flexibility in athletes and this situation was similar in male athletes. However, it was determined that there was a relationship between the strength of the trunk flexor and extensor muscles and the sit and reach flexibility in female athletes. In order to increase flexibility in female athletes who has a weak trunk muscle strength, we think that the strength of the muscles participating in that movement should be increased.
