ABSTRACT
Objective: The research was carried out to determine the traditional complementary medicine (TCM) methods that mothers apply to their children and their attitudes towards these methods. Material and Methods: The research was conducted in descriptive type. The data were collected using the ''descriptive information form'' and the ''Scale of Attitudes to Holistic Complementary and Alternative Medicine (HCAMQ)''. Two hundred sixty eight mothers participated in the study. Descriptive statistics, parametric and non-parametric tests were used in the analysis of the data. Results: The mean age of the mothers participating in the study was 34.69±6.56 and 62.3% of them were university graduates or higher and 56.3% of them were not working. The rate of use of TCM in the children of mothers is 76.9%. It was determined that the methods were used more in cases of influenza (17.5%), cold (11.3%) and diarrhea (10.8%), respectively. Among the TCM applications, it was determined that herbal tea (19.1%), food with high vitamin content (17.4%) and feeding (17.3%) were used the most. 45.6% of the mothers stated that they preferred TCM because they found it harmless. The mothers' total mean score of HCAMQ was found to be 26.19±7.52. It was found that there was a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of HCAMQ and the age of the mothers (p0.05). Conclusion: As a result of the research, it was seen that more than half of the mothers use TCM for their children, they prefer it more in respiratory health problems, their use of herbal tea is high, and mothers have a positive attitude towards TCM. It is recommended that health professionals evaluate the TCM methods that mothers apply to their children and inform them about the practices.
