ABSTRACT
Objective: This research was conducted as a pretestposttest control group study in order to determine the effect of the health literacy education program on the health literacy and healthy lifestyle of nursing students. Material and Methods: The research was conducted with a total of 152 students, 84 for the experimental group and 68 for the control group, who were educated in the nursing department and did not receive any training on health literacy. Data; the nursing student information form was collected with the Health Literacy Scale (HLS) and the Healthy Lifestyle Behavior Scale (HLBS). Mean, percentage calculations and linear regression analysis were used in the analysis of the research data. Results: It was determined that there was a statistically significant difference between the health literacy and healthy lifestyle mean scores of the experimental and control groups in which the nursing students took part, in terms of group, time and group*time interaction. While the education program explained 35% of the increase in HLS level, getting education increased the HLS score 0.454 times; while it explains 30% of the increase in HLBS level, it was determined that getting education increased the HLBS score 0.421 times. When the power and effect size of the study were examined, it was found that the power of the study was 0.99 and the effect size (f2 ) was 0.950 for the HLS, 0.98 for the HLBS and the effect size (f2 ) was 0.890. Conclusion: It has been seen that the health literacy education program is an effective method in increasing the health literacy and healthy lifestyle score averages of nursing students and contributes to nursing literature and education.
