ABSTRACT
Rheumatologic diseases are chronic health problems that cause limitations in individuals' daily life activities and restrictions on functional independence. People with rheumatologic diseases are at risk for dependence in activities of daily living secondary to pain, stiffness, joint limitations, and muscle weakness. Therefore, it's important that individuals with rheumatologic diseases are supported with assistive devices in order to increase their functional capacities and independence, to ensure their safety in daily life and to sustain self care. Assistive devices are products or tools designed to assist daily tasks and support independent function. This can include any piece of equipment, product or system that is used to increase, maintain or improve the functional capacities of individuals. Canes, crutches and walkers are the tools and equipment for rheumatology patients recommended in all guidelines, but there are many tools and equipment such as jar openers, easy-tohold containers. Assistive devices are frequently suggested in patients with rheumatologic diseases, with the aim of improving or maintaining the patient's functional ability. The use of assistive devices allows individuals to manage their daily lives and to overcome the difficulties which they encounter. In addition, it's reported that the use of assistive devices has positive effects on the self confidence of the individuals. It's important that nurses who are the key role in providing healthcare services should provide guidance to individuals and families in the care they offer to individuals with rheumatological disease in holistic manner and to select and use appropriate tools and equipment to facilitate their daily lives.
