ABSTRACT
Objective: This study was conducted to determine the cultural sensitivity of nurses working in pediatric clinics, and family centered care practices for refugee patients and expectations of the parents. Material and Methods: The study was conducted with 100 volunteering nurses working in pediatric services and 80 refugee child parents who agreed to participate in the study. The ethics committee approval, institutional permission, verbal and written consent of the participants were obtained to conduct the study. The data was collected by patient child and parent identification form, the personal information forms for nurses, Family Centered Care Questionnaire for the nurses, and Intercultural Sensitivity Scale. Descriptive statistics, Cronbach's alpha, Student t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson correlation tests were used in evaluating the data. Results: It was found that the nurses with postgraduate education, desirous to work and satisfied with working in pediatrics (p>0.05) have higher cultural sensitivity average scores. It was determined that the nurses with desirous to work and satisfied with working in pediatrics, and having knowledge about familycentered care have higher family centered care average scores (p>0.05). According to the care expectations of the families, it was determined that there was no significant difference between the nurses' cultural sensitivity and family centered care average scores (p>0.05). A positive weak linear relationship was determined between the family centered care and cultural sensitivity average scores of the nurses (r=0.355, p<0.001). Conclusion: Training and awareness studies should be conducted to increase culturally oriented family-centered care practices of nurses.
