ABSTRACT
Objective: The aim of the study is to examine the effect of outdoor recreation practices, in which physical participation is limited during the pandemic period, on the education and training process with 360-degree virtual lesson tours. Material and Methods: The study group of the research consisted of 6 female and 9 male students (n=15) taking the "recreation Practices" course. In order to ensure the effective participation of the students, a virtual classroom environment was created and lessons were taught in this environment over a period of 8 weeks. In the study, a holistic single case design was used among qualitative research methods. Semi-structured questions consisting of 17 questions were asked to the students after their virtual course platform experiences and the data obtained were interpreted by content analysis with the help of NVivo program. Results: Teaching the recreation practices course on the virtual course platform was found to be understandable and useful in terms of teaching applied courses during the pandemic process. The platform was thought to create a real field feeling and it was realized that it provided field knowledge. In the research on experiencing virtual recreation areas, participants stated that they experienced the feeling of real space. These experiences generally included positive feedback and it was emphasized that virtual tours were effective in knowledge transfer and efficiency of the course. Students stated that virtual tours increased course motivation, created a sense of real space and facilitated the learning process. However, some participants stated that the virtual tour does not create a sense of reality and restricts socialization, revealing that there are aspects that may be lacking in this platform compared to the real field. Conclusion: In general, most of the students found the virtual tours positive and stated that they would prefer them for course repetition and exam preparation. Based on student feedback, it was concluded that 360 virtual tours can be used as an effective educational tool in recreation courses. This project was supported by Trabzon University BAP Coordination Unit in 2022.
