ABSTRACT
Objective: Nurses should take initiatives to increase the selfcare self-sufficiency levels of elderly individuals when planning care practices and patient education. The aim of this study is to analyze whether the Turkish version of the Self-Care Self-Efficacy Scale is a valid and reliable scale in the context of Turkish society. Material and Methods: The population of the study consisted of patients aged 65 and over who applied to the internal medicine and neurology outpatient clinics of a state hospital in the east. The sample of the study consisted of 509 individuals. The study data were collected with the ''Introductory Information Form'' and the draft ''SelfCare Self-Efficacy Scale''. Validity and reliability analyses and measurement invariance analysis were performed. Results: It was determined that the scale was compatible with the original scale and consisted of 4 sub-dimensions and 10 items. The fit indices of the scale were determined as ''x2 =96.557, df=27 (p<0.05), CMIN/df=3.576, GFI=0.904, CFI=0.953, RMR=0.071, SRMR=0.0561, NFI=0.937, TLI=0.922, IFI=0.954, PNFI=0.562''. Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of the scale were determined as 0.884 for the ''Self-Efficacy in Self-Care Behaviors Based on Clinical Information'' sub-dimension. 0.907 for the ''Self-Efficacy in Self-Monitoring'' sub-dimension, 0.890 for the ''Self-Efficacy in Self-Care'' sub-dimension, and 0.938 for the ''Self-Efficacy in Self-Management'' sub-dimension. Cronbach's Alpha coefficient for the entire scale were determined to be 0.947. The mean scores of the scale and its sub-dimensions between the lower and upper 27% groups were found to be statistically significant. It was determined that there was a positive relationship between the scale and its subdimensions. It was determined that formal, metric and scale invariance was provided according to the gender variable, but strict invariance was not provided. Conclusion: ''Self-Care Self-Sufficiency Scale'' is a valid and reliable measurement tool for Turkish society. Self-care for the elderly to determine the level of self-efficacy and to plan and implement the necessary interventions to evaluate its effectiveness.
