ABSTRACT
Objective: In this research, it is aimed to investigate the relationship between quality of life and psychological well-being in patients with ostomy. Material and Methods: The research is descriptive, cross-sectional and relationship seeker. The sample size of the research was calculated with the MINITAB program and the research was carried out with 175 participants. The data of the research were collected in a state university hospital in the Marmara Region between 15 January and 15 August 2019. Ostomy intervention was applied to the scope of the research and the patients who agreed to participate in the research were included. The data of the research were collected by using the Personal Information Form, Hope Center Ostomy Quality of Life Scale and Psychological Well-being Scale. Mann Whitney-U test, Kruskal-Wallis test and Spearman correlation analysis were used to analyze the data. Results: According to the results of the research, a moderate-level positive correlation was found between the average score of life quality and psychological well-being of patients who underwent ostomy. From the data obtained, it was determined that the mean scores of the spiritual sub-dimension of life quality of single patients were high, and there was a significant difference between the patients' increased postoperative economic expenses and the quality of life scale and sub-dimensions. A significant difference was found between the colostomy type and the physical and social subscale mean scores of the quality of life scale. In addition, it was found that as the education level of the patients increased, the mean scores of the psychological sub-dimension of the quality of life scale were higher and the difference was statistically significant. When the quality of life of the patients was examined according to the type of colostomy, it was determined that the mean scores of the physical sub-dimension of the quality of life scale were high in patients with temporary colostomy. Conclusion: According to the results obtained from the research, there is a significant relationship between the quality of life and psychological well-being of patients with ostomy.
