ABSTRACT
Objective: This study was carried out to evaluate the relationship between musculoskeletal disorders and health perception and the use of complementary and alternative methods among greenhouse workers. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 182 workers in a district center between September and December 2021. Descriptive information form prepared by the researchers, Extended Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire, Nottingham Health Profile Questionnaire and Complementary and Alternative Medicine Approaches Scale were used to collect data. SPSS 25.0 program was used in the evaluation of the data, and descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U test, and linear regression analysis were applied in the analysis. Results: The participants had been working in the greenhouse for an average of 13.87±13.23 years and the mean of daily working time was 8.18±1.15 hours. 48.4% of the participants experienced pain mostly in the lumbar region, and secondly in the foot/ankle region (33%). As a result of the linear regression analysis, musculoskeletal disorders explained the perception of health by 6-14% among workers (p<0.001). Considering the relationship between musculoskeletal disorders and the use of complementary and alternative medicine methods, only back pain was found to be a predictive factor (p<0.05). Conclusion: Musculoskeletal disorders are experienced in greenhouse agriculture, which is a heavy line of work. Improving working conditions and counseling by primary health care workers in body weight control, weight management and complementary and alternative medicine methods will be beneficial.
