Hastaların %81,8'i herhangi bir TAT yöntemini kullanıyordu.

Objective: The trend towards complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) approaches has increased with the increase of chronic diseases in many countries around the world. This study was conducted to evaluate the attitudes and behaviors of individuals with chronic diseases about the use of complementary alternative methods in order to protect themselves from coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) during the pandemic process. Material and Methods: The sample of the descriptive and cross-sectional study consisted of 396 patients who applied to the internal medicine outpatient clinics of a university hospital between July and September 2022 and met the study criteria. Data were collected using the personal information form developed by the researchers and the Attitudes towards Holistic Complementary and Alternative Medicine Scale (HCAMS). Statistical analyses was done with IBM SPSS statistical program. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test, Mann-Whitney U and Kruskall-Wallis H test were used for statistical analysis, and p<0.05 was considered significant. Results: The mean age of the participants was found at 54.9±17.3 (minimum-maximum: 19-90); 61.6% of them were female. 52.3% of the participants were diagnosed with COVID-19 and 91.4% had received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. 81.8% of the patients used any of the CAM methods. The mean HCAMS score of the participants was found as 31.09±4.37. The most commonly used CAM therapies were herbal products (84.3%), vitamins (84.3%) and praying (73.8%). Among the individuals with chronic diseases, those who used CAM during the COVID-19 pandemic process had lower mean scores in both the total mean score and the sub-dimensions of the scale, and the difference was found to be statistically significant. There was a statistically significant difference in the attitudes cores of individuals who used CAM and were vaccinated against COVID, and it was found to be positive. Conclusion: In the study, it was found that the attitudes of the participants towards CAM were positive and moderate.
