ABSTRACT
Objective: This research was conducted to evaluate nurses' views on the importance of nutritional assessment, level of knowledge about nutritional care, and perceptions of the quality of nutritional care. Material and Methods: This research was implemented descriptive design; was conducted a public university hospital in Istanbul between May-September 2021. The population of the research consisted 1000 nurses working in the hospital. 283 volunteer nurses who were over 18 years age and had least 6 months of professional experience were included in the study, whose sample size was calculated with known sampling formula and n=278. The Participant Information Form created by the researchers and the Scale for Evaluation of the Importance of Nutritional Evaluation in Nurses, Level of Knowledge of Nutritional Care and Perceived Nutritional Care Quality were used to collect the data and were collected by the researchers using face-to-face interview technique. Descriptive statistics, Kruskal-Wallis and MannWhitney U tests were used to analyze the data. Results: The average age of the participants was 27.02, the majority (88%) were women. The rate of participants who had previously received nutrition training was 77%. The majority of the participants (72.8%) were undergraduate graduates, (37.3%) were working in the surgical unit. It was determined that the participants' attitude score average in the first sub-dimension of the scale, ''Importance of Nutritional Assessment'', was 24.14 (SD=3.13); their knowledge score average in the second sub-dimension, ''Knowledge Level Regarding Nutritional Care'', was 24.96 (SD=5.67) and their perception score average in the third sub-dimension, ''Perceived Quality of Care Regarding Nutritional Care'', was 24.18 (SD=3.20). Conclusion: Nurses' attitude nutrition care is high; their level of knowledge is medium level; it was determined they perceived the quality of nutritional care provided in their clinics to be below the average level.
