ABSTRACT
The research was carried out to determine the effect of sociotropic- autonomic personality traits of patients on their attitudes towards using their patients rights. The study was carried out in cross-section and correlational. The research was made in a university hospital in the Northeastern Anatolia in Türkiye. The research was conducted with 353 volunteer patients. Data were collected using by a descriptive information form, the Sociotropy-Autonomy Scale, and the Scale of Attitudes towards Using Patients' Rights. In the evaluation of the data, the numbers and percentages of the descriptive features were taken. Scale and sub-dimension total score mean were calculated. Data were analyzed using by the one-way ANOVA, t-test, Pearson correlation coefficient, Kruskal-Wallis H and Mann-Whitney U tests and linear regression analysis. Participants had a total mean Scale of Attitudes towards Using Patients' Rights, Sociotropy Scale, and Autonomy Scale score of 116.75±18.99, 68.59±20.70, and 71.09±21.77, respectively. Participants' Sociotropy-Autonomy Scale subscale scores were positively correlated with their Scale of Attitudes towards Using Patients' Rights and subscale scores (p<0.05). The regression analysis showed that sociotropic personality traits (11%) and autonomic personality traits (14%) had an effect on participants' attitudes towards using their rights. In the study, it was determined that the patients with high sociotropic-autonomic personality characteristics also had attitudes towards using their rights. It was determined that the sociotropic personality trait had a negative predictive effect on the sub-dimension of 'the right of staff to receive services in accordance with medical requirements and to comply with prohibitions'.
