Parenthood is a duration which usually stresses mothers and fathers out. Pregnancy period, which is especially the first step of parenthood, is a vital process that includes physical changes, but neglects its psychological aspect. Parents need social and professional support to overcome this difficult process. Haptonomy is a practice that provides emotional interaction between parents and fetus in the prenatal and postnatal period. In addition, haptonomy contributes to the early initiation of communication between the baby and the parents, improves the emotional relationship and can be effective in preparing for parenthood. Haptonomy is the field of 'life sciences'. This field by exploring people's emotional relationships and lives, especially examines the effects of communication, interaction and human relations. It is a new field of experimental science that uses touch to strengthen, heal, and communicate with the emotional life. Haptonomy also has certain areas of influence, such as improving communication between mother, father and baby and helping to share emotions. It is reported that there are limited resources on haptonomy in the literature, and there is a lack of literature on haptonomy in our country. Although the studies on haptonomy are limited, it is reported that it is beneficial for parents, baby and family, and has a supportive effect in the practices of midwives, nurses and other health professionals. At this side, the study has been handled with the aim of clarifying the lack of information about what haptonomy is, its history, usage areas, its relationship with mental health and how it is applied.
