ABSTRACT
Objective: This study was carried out to evaluate the attitudes of department of physiotherapy and rehabilitation students towards Traditional and Complementary Medicine. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study included 337 (236 women, 101 men) students studying in the department of physiotherapy and rehabilitation. The participants' sociodemographic characteristics, the complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) knowledge and attitudes were questioned using the ''google.survey'' tool. Results: The first three CAM methods that students have never heard of are prolotherapy (72.7%), apitherapy (71.2%) and maggottherapy (68.5%). The first three CAM methods that students have sufficient knowledge about are acupuncture (20.2%), chiropractic (17.8%) and cupping (15.1%). The total mean CAM Attitudes Scale score of the students was determined as 110.79±20.34. There was no significant relationship between age and the total and sub-dimension scores of the CAM Attitudes Scale (p>0.05). No significant relationship was found between gender and CAM Attitudes Scale total scores (p>0.05). The dissatisfaction with conventional medicine scores of the males were higher than women's (p=0.001), and holistic balance scores were lower than women's (p=0.002). The dissatisfaction with conventional medicine scores of the students whose mothers were university graduates was higher than those whose mothers were primary school graduates (p=0.023). The holistic balance score of the group whose income is more than expenditure was higher (p=0.034). It was determined that 74.5% of the students never used CAM methods. Conclusion: The physiotherapy and rehabilitation department students have a positive attitude about CAM methods. The sociodemographic characteristics of the students can affect their attitudes towards CAM methods.
