Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence of dental caries lesions in patients receiving orthodontic treatment with selfligating and standard bracket systems. Material and Methods: A total of 300 patients aged between 12-30 years who were treated at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, Faculty of Dentistry Department of Orthodontics were included in the study. Panoramic x-rays and intra-oral photographs of the patients treated with selfligating and standard bracket systems were evaluated at the beginning and at the end of the treatment and the teeth with caries lesion formation were identified. The suitability of the data for normal distribution was evaluated by Shapiro-Wilk test. Independent groups t-test was used to compare the variables with normal distribution between two groups. Pearson chisquare test and Fisher's exact test were used to compare qualitative data. Statistical significance was accepted as p0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that the number of teeth with caries formation increased with age, but the gender, bracket system and duration of treatment did not affect the number of teeth with caries formation in patients undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment.
