ABSTRACT
Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the cyclic fatigue resistance of Reciproc Blue files after used in 1 or 3 extracted molar teeth while irrigation with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) or ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) gel. Material and Methods: In this study, 120 mandibular molar teeth were randomly divided depending on the number of uses of the files (1-3 times) and irrigation solution (NaOCl or EDTA gel). Root canal shaping was performed with Resiproc 25/08, and autoclave sterilization was performed after the 1st and 2nd use in the group where the files were used 3 times. After use on extracted teeth, Resiproc Blue files were subjected to cyclic fatigue resistance testing in an artificial canal test rig. Breakage time, number of cycles until breakage and length of broken pieces were evaluated statistically. Data were evaluated with one-way analysis of variance, Kruskal-Wallis test and Tukey test. Results: While there was no statistically significant difference between the control and NaOCl-1 groups in terms of number of cycles to fracture and break-up times (p>0.05), a significant difference was found between the control group and NaOCl-3, EDTA-1 and EDTA-3 groups (p<0.05). When the solutions used were compared, no significant difference was found in terms of whether the two solutions affected the cyclic fatigue of the files (p>0.05). When pairwise comparisons were evaluated between NaOCl-1 and NaOCl-3 and EDTA-1 and EDTA-3 groups, no statistically significant difference was found. Conclusion: It has been observed that the use of NaOCl or EDTA gel during instrumentation in root canals or the use of files on one or three molar teeth did not influence the cyclic fatigue residence of the Resiproc files.
