Objective: The perceived social support in the postpartum period to evaluate the effect of maternal sleep quality. Material and Methods: The study is across-sectional study. Research data were collected between 1 June-31 December 2014. The universe of research; The universe of research; A total of 122 mothers who were registered in family health centers of Bornova municipality and who were born within the first 42 days after the birth. No sample selection has been made, the entire universe was tried to be reached. Data were collected by using the data form for mother, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support. Shapiro-Wilk test was used for normal distribution. In data analysis, the number-percentage distribution, Mann-Whitney and Spearman's correlation was used. Results: The mean PSQI score of the mothers who participated in the study was 7.46±3.13. There was no significant relationship (p>0.05) between the social support perceived by the mother and sleep quality in the postpartum period. In the postpartum period, the support status of the mothers and the person who they receive support do not affect the quality of sleep. Conclusion: In our study, it was found that social support alone was not an effective factor on sleep quality. Nevertheless, it is real that sleep problems have negative effects on the quality of life of families and individuals. Therefore, it is necessary to give trainings about sleep hygiene to the individuals both before and during the postpartum period, and to raise awareness among the mothers. In addition, mothers should be assisted in coping with sleep problems and encouraged to develop strategies based on individual conditions.
