Objective: The aim of the study was to compare the accuracy and reproducibility of the shade guide, spectrophotometer and intraoral scanner used for shade selection in dentistry. Material and Methods: The study included 194 dental students on a voluntary basis. The color measurements of the upper right central incisor were taken from the middle 3rd of the labial surface using the visual color scale (Vita 3D Master); instrumentally, measurements were made with a spectrophotometer (Vita Easyshade Advance 4.0) and an intraoral scanner (CEREC Omnicam AC) by a single observer. The spectrophotometric measurements were used as a reference. Each measurement technique was performed 3 times to evaluate the reproducibility of different methods. Results: A statistically significant difference was found between the colour measurement results of the three methods. It was observed that the colour values obtained by the intraoral scanner were different from the visual and spectrophotometric methods (p<0.001). When the spectrophotometer was accepted as the reference device, a statistical difference was observed between the distributions of colour measurements according to accuracy (p<0.001). A statistical difference was found between the distributions of colour measurements according to repeatability rates, and it was observed that the repeatability of the intraoral scanner and spectrophotometer methods were similar and higher than the visual method (p<0.001). Conclusion: The combination of visual and instrumental methods may provide more successful results in clinical shade selection. The use of an intraoral scanner with shade selection tool may be an alternative to the spectrophotometer and shade guide methods.
