ABSTRACT
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the accessibility and readability of radiology consent forms on the websites of dental faculties in a time when approximately eight out of every ten people search for health-related problems on the internet. Material and Methods: The terms ''informed radiology consent form'', ''radiology consent form'', ''informed consent form'' were searched by using the search button on the websites of 91 faculties providing patient care services. Ateşman readability formula was used to determine the readability level of the consent forms of 24 faculties. Descriptive statistics were used to calculate mean values, standard deviation and minimummaximum values. Results: According to the Ateşman readability index, 4.2% of the consent form texts were found to be easy, 37.5% were found to be medium, and 58.3% were found to be difficult. Considering the content of the texts analyzed, it was determined that 79% of the texts provided information on general issues such as advantages-disadvantages and alternatives of the radiologic technique to be applied, and 70% of the texts provided information on X-rays in pregnant women. While 60% of the texts asked for consent for X-rays, 50% asked for advanced imaging techniques. Conclusion: It may be recommended that physicians follow the practice of obtaining consent, which is legally the responsibility of the physician, examine the content of the texts and avoid terminological expressions as much as possible and use a concise and concise expression style in order to increase the readability of the information conveyed to the patient.
