ABSTRACT
Objective: The aim of the study is to evaluate the attitudes of parents whose children are hospitalized towards rational drug use. Material and Methods: The research was conducted as a descriptive study with parents whose children were hospitalized between the ages of 0-12. The population of the research was 918, and the sample was 205 parents. G*Power analysis was used to determine the sample. ''Parent and Child Introductory Information Form'' and ''Parental Attitude Scale Towards Rational Drug Use'' were used to collect data. In the analysis of the study, t-test was used for independent samples, and one-way analysis of variance was used for comparisons of normally distributed continuous variables. Results: It was announced that 40.0% of the mothers (n=82) used non-prescription medication for their children. When the reasons for using non-prescription medication for the child were examined, the highest rate (15.1%; n=31) was the recommendation of a healthcare professional and 36.1% (n=74). It was stated that the drug used without a prescription was good for the child. Parents' Parental Attitude Scale Towards Rational Drug Use mean score (143.83±16.54), correct and conscious use subscale mean score (108.96±13.01), effective and safe use subscale mean score 34.87± It was found to be 5.98. In the study, with the total score average of the Parental Attitude Scale towards Rational Drug Use; It was determined that there was a statistically significant difference between families whose children were regularly monitored and those who used non-prescription medication for their children, depending on the child's age group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Rational drug use was evaluated positively on having an older child, going to a regular health institution, being able to apply to a private hospital, having no chronic disease in the child, not using over-the-counter medication, having a good education level, being able to work, having social security, having a good economic situation, living in a city, having fewer children.
