ÖZET
Amaç: Literatürde solunum kası egzersizi ile kor egzersizlerin solunum fonksiyonlarına etkileri ayrı ayrı incelenirken, her iki egzersizin aynı anda uygulanmasının solunum fonksiyonlarına etkisini inceleyen sınırlı sayıda çalışma bulunmaktadır.

ABSTRACT
Objective: While the effects of respiratory muscle exercises and core exercises on respiratory functions are examined separately in the literature, there are a limited number of studies examining the effects of applying both exercises simultaneously on respiratory functions. With this in mind, the aim of the study is to examine the effects of combined core and respiratory muscle exercises on respiratory functions. Material and Methods: Forty licensed male basketball players aged 13-14 participated in the study. Participants were divided into four equal groups: the control group (CG), core exercise group (CEG), instrumented respiratory muscle exercise group (RMG), and combined exercise group (CEG). While all groups continued their regular basketball training throughout the study, exercise program were applied in addition to basketball training for all groups except CG. The respiratory functions of the participants were determined twice with a spirometry device, before the exercise program started and four weeks later. In the analysis of the data, two-way analysis of variance test was used for repeated measurements to examine the results of different protocols (CEG, CG, CEG, RMG), pre-test, post-test measurements and protocol*time interaction effect. Results: While there was no significant difference in lung volumes and capacities among the groups, the highest percentage improvement in all parameters except maximal inspiratory pressure was observed in the CEG. Additionally, all groups showed a percentage improvement in respiratory parameters. Conclusion: In conclusion, it is thought that the combination of core and respiratory muscle exercises in athletes will contribute to sports performance by both strengthening the core muscles and improving respiratory functions.
