GTT kullanan 62 kişinin %70,1'i aromaterapi (uçucu yağlar), %60'ı bitkisel ürünler (arı sütü, bal, zencefil, keçiboynuzu, pekmez vb.), %31,6'sı nefes alma teknikleri, %8,8'i müzik terapi ve %3,5'i yoga terapiyi kullanmaktadır.

Objective: The knowledge of asthmatic children's parents about asthma and traditional complementary treatment (TCT) methods may influence the control and severity of asthma. In this regard, the present study was carried out in order to determine TCT use of asthmatic children's parents and the level of their knowledge about the disease. Material and Methods: Having a descriptive and cross-sectional design, the present study was carried out between February-June 2019 in a pediatric allergy and asthma unit of a training and research hospital located in Ankara. The sample consisted of 107 mothers having child aged <5 years, diagnosed with asthma minimum 1 year ago, and having no chronic disease other than asthma. In this study, the data collection form and Respiration and Asthma Control Test for Children (RACTC) prepared by the researchers were used. Results: As a result of this study, 32.7% of the mothers stated that they use TCT methods. Among 62 participants using TCT, 70.1% were using aromatherapy (essential oils), 60% were using herbal products (royal jelly, honey, ginger, carob, molasses, and etc.), 31.6% were using breathing methods, 8.8% were using music therapy, and 3.5% were using yoga therapy. The level of TCT use increases among the working females with a higher income level. It was determined that the use of TCT was at higher level among the families of children having night cough, wheezing, labored breathing, and sore throat problems (p<0.05). According to the results of RACTC, the level of TCT use was significantly lower in the controlled group of children. Moreover, according to RACTC, the level of knowledge about asthma was higher in the controlled group. Conclusion: The use of TCT affects the control of asthma. In order to ensure the asthma control, it is very important for the families to have knowledge about the use of TCT and to have education about asthma.
