ABSTRACT
Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between parental attitude and eating behavior, executive functioning and self-care skills in children aged 48-72 months. Materials and Methods: The study included 84 mothers with children aged 48-72 months. Parental Attitude Scale, Behavioral Pediatric Rating Scale, Childhood Executive Function Inventory Parent Form, and SelfCare Assessment Test for Children Aged 3-6 Years were used for data collection. Results: A negative correlation was found between democratic attitude and eating behavior (p=0.000; r=-0.481), while a positive correlation was found between authoritarian parental attitude (p=0.000; r=0.379) and permissive parental attitude (p=0.000; r=0.405). There was a negative correlation between democratic attitude and executive functions (p=0,001; r=-0,341) and a positive correlation between authoritarian attitude and executive functions (p=0,004; r=0,308). While there was a positive correlation between democratic attitude and selfcare skills (p=0,005; r=0,307), there was a negative correlation between authoritarian parental attitude (p=0,000; r=-0,379) and permissive attitude and self-care skills (p=0,000; r=-0,452). Conclusion: In this study, in which we examined the relationship between parental attitude and eating behavior, executive functions and self-care skills in children aged 48-72 months, it was observed that authoritarian maternal attitude negatively affected children's eating behavior, executive functions and selfcare skills. In democratic parental attitudes, children showed higher self-care skills. It is important for occupational therapists working with preschool children within the scope of occupational therapy in schools to provide caregiver and parent training in order to increase the independence of children in their self-care skills.
