PRINCIPLES OF RESEARCH AND PUBLISHING ETHICS
Scientific writings submitted to the Turkiye Klinikleri Journal of Biostatistics should take into account the guidelines related to the Higher Education Institutions Scientific Research and Publication Ethics , the suggestions of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and International Standards for Editors and Authors of the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) .
Plagiarism
Plagiarism takes many forms, from ‘passing off’ another’s paper as the author’s own paper, to copying or paraphrasing substantial parts of another’s paper (without attribution), to claiming results from research conducted by others. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical behavior and is unacceptable. Authors should submit original works and sources must be appropriately cited or quoted.
All submitted manuscripts are checked for plagiarism using iThenticate and subsequently reviewed for their suitability for publication in the journal. Manuscripts with high plagiarism, insufficient originality, serious scientific or technical flaws are rejected.
Duplicate submission
Authors should not submit the same manuscript or similar manuscript based on the same database, in the same or different languages, simultaneously to more than one journal.
Fabrication and falsification of data
Scientific misconduct in research and non-research publications includes but is not necessarily limited to data fabrication; data falsification, including deceptive manipulation of images; purposeful failure to disclose conflicts of interest; and plagiarism. Some people consider failure to publish the results of clinical trials and other human studies a form of scientific misconduct.
When scientific misconduct is alleged, or concerns are otherwise raised about the conduct or integrity of work described in submitted or published papers, the journal acts according to the COPE Guidelines.
Citations manipulation
A manuscript should contain only relevant citations. The inclusion of citations that are not relevant to the work is strongly discouraged. Similarly, irrelevant self-citation to increase one’s citation is unethical.
AUTHORSHIP
All authors should have contributed to the article directly either academically or scientifically.
Authorship should be based on the following 4 criteria:
1.Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND
2. Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content; AND
3. Final approval of the version to be published; AND
4. Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
All those designated as authors should meet all four criteria for authorship, and all who meet the four criteria should be identified as authors. Those who do not meet all four criteria should be acknowledged.
It is the collective responsibility of the authors, not the journal to which the work is submitted, to determine that all people named as authors meet all four criteria.
It is the authors’ responsibility to prepare a manuscript that meets scientific criterias.
Changes in authorship
The writers' names and placement that are indicated in the copyright transfer form will be considered after the process of the manuscript is started.
After this stage;
- A writer name cannot be added to the manuscript in any time except the writers who signed the copyright transfer form.
- The order of the writers' names cannot be changed.
Acknowledgement
Contributors who meet fewer than all 4 of the above criteria for authorship should not be listed as authors, but they should be acknowledged.
Conflict of interest, financial support, grants, and all other editorial (statistical analysis, language editing) and/or technical asistance if present, must be presented at the end of the text.
Conflict of Interest
According to WAME, "Conflict of interest (COI) exists when there is a divergence between an individual’s private interests (competing interests) and his or her responsibilities to scientific and publishing activities such that a reasonable observer might wonder if the individual’s behavior or judgement was motivated by considerations of his or her competing interests.".
