Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, üniversite öğrencilerinde çocukluk çağı travmaları ile savunma mekanizmaları ve kendine zarar verme davranışları arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Katılımcılar, üniversitede herhangi bir programa kayıtlı olan 530 (266 kadın, 264 erkek) öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Verilerin toplanmasında; 'Demografik Bilgi Formu', 'Çocukluk Çağı Ruhsal Travma Ölçeği', 'Savunma Biçimleri Testi' ve 'Kendine Zarar Verme Davranışı Değerlendirme Envanteri' kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Katılımcıların 176 (%33,2)'sı kendine zarar verme davranışı göstermiş olup, 'kendini kesme' en fazla kullanılan kendine zarar verme davranışı türü olarak bulunmuştur. Kendine zarar verme davranışı göstermiş öğrencilerin çocukluk çağı travmaları (tüm alt boyutlar dâhil), kendine zarar verme davranışı göstermemiş öğrencilerden daha fazladır. Hiyerarşik Regresyon Analizi sonucuna göre ise çocukluk çağı travmaları ile immatür ve nevrotik savunmalar birlikte kendine zarar verme davranışlarındaki toplam varyansın %31'ini açıklamaktadır. Sonuç: Çalışmanın temel problemi olan çocukluk çağı travmaları ile kendine zarar verme davranışları ve savunma biçimleri arasında düşük ve/veya orta düzeyde, pozitif yönde istatistiksel bir korelasyon bulunmuştur. Kendine zarar verme davranışlarının ortaya çıkmasında adli bilimler açısından önem teşkil eden kronik çocukluk çağı travmalarının önemli bir etkiye sahip olması, çocukluk çağı travmalarını önlemeye yönelik uygulanabilir ve pratik yaklaşımlara ihtiyaç olduğunun önemli bir göstergesidir.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between childhood traumas, defense mechanisms and self-injury behaviours in university students. Material and Methods: Participants comprise of 530 students (266 females, 264 males) registered in any program at the university. In the collection of data; Demographic Information Form, The Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, Defense Style Questionnaire and Non-Suicidal Self-Injury were used. Results: 176 (33.2%) of the participants showed self-injury behaviour and self-cutting was the most commonly used self-injury behaviour. Childhood trauma (including all sub-dimensions) of students who showed self-injury behaviour were higher than those who showed no self-injury behaviour. According to Hierarchical Regression Analysis, childhood trauma and immature and neurotic defenses account for 31% of the total variance in self-injury behaviors. Conclusion: There is a low and/or moderate positive correlation between childhood trauma and self-injury behaviours and defense mechanisms, which is the main problem of this study. Chronic childhood trauma, which are important for the forensic sciences, has an significant effect on the emergence of self-injury behaviours is an substantial indicator of the need for applicable and practical approaches to prevent childhood trauma.
