Amaç: Dental yaralanmalarla karşılaşabilecek çeşitli sağlık çalışanlarının travmatik dental yaralanmalara yönelik bilgi ve farkındalık düzeylerini değerlendirmektir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Bu çalışmaya, 2016-2017 yılları arasında Çukurova Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi son sınıf öğrencileri, devlet ve özel hastanelerin acil servislerinde çalışan doktor ve hemşireler, serbest diş hekimleri ve dental hemşireler dâhil edildi. Çalışmanın etik onayı Çukurova Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Tıp Etiği Kurulu'ndan (Belge no:2016/3555) alındı. Araştırmacılar hastane acil servislerini ve diş hekimliği kliniklerini ziyaret edip katılımcılara çalışma hakkında bilgiler verdi. Çalışmaya katılmayı kabul eden katılımcılara anket formları dağıtıldı ve yanıtlamaları istendi. Bulgular: 2016-2017 yılları arasında Çukurova Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi son sınıf öğrencilerinin yaklaşık %68'inin bilgi düzeylerinin yeterli olduğu saptandı ve bu yıllarda eğitim alan öğrenciler arasında bilgi düzeyi açısından istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farklar bulunmadı. Acil servis hekimlerinin yaklaşık %75'inin ve acil servis hemşirelerin %60'ının dental yaralanmalar konusunda bilgi düzeylerinin yeterli olmadığı görüldü. Diş hekimi olmayan sağlık çalışanlarının dental travmatik yaralanmalar ile ilgili bilgi ve farkındalıklarını geliştirmeye istekli oldukları belirlendi. Serbest diş hekimlerinin yaklaşık %83,3'ü, dental hemşirelerin %50'si dental travmatik yaralanmalarda bilgi ve farkındalıklarının yeterli olduğunu düşünse de birçok diş hekimi, acil servis çalışanı ve dental hemşireler dental travma ile ilgili eğitici bir programın önemli olduğunu belirttiler. Sonuç: Bu çalışmanın sınırları dâhilinde; Çukurova Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesinde 2016-2017 yılları arasında son sınıfta okuyan öğrencilerin travmatik dental yaralanmalar konusunda bilgi ve farkındalıklarının yeterli olduğu; ancak diş hekimi olmayan sağlık çalışanlarının bu konuda bilgilerinin yeterli olmadığı belirlenmiştir. Bu çalışmada, dentoalveolar travma ile karşılaşabilecek sağlık çalışanlarının bilgi ve farkındalık düzeylerinin geliştirilmesine yönelik eğitim programlarının gerekli olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.

Objective: The aim of the study is to evaluate the level of knowledge and awareness of health professionals regarding first aid for dental trauma injuries. Material and Methods: Senior dental students of Çukurova University Faculty of Dentistry in 2016-2017 years, emergency physicians, nurses, private dentists and dental nurses in the public and private health services were included in this study. The institutional ethical approval obtained from Cukurova University Faculty of Medicine Ethics Committee (ID:2016/3555). Investigators visited the hospital emergency services, dental clinics and it was given some information to participants about this study. The questionnaire with questions were given to each participant and asked to answer from participants. Results: About %68 of the senior dental students of 2016-2017 years stated that it was satisfied about their knowledge level of dental injuries and there were no statistically differences between trained dental students at the different years. About 75% of emergency doctors and 60% of emergency nurses was not found adequate their knowledge level of dental injuries. It was determined that all non-dental professionals were willing to improve their knowledge and awareness of dental traumatic injuries. Even though 83.3% of general dentists and %50 of dental nurses was found adequate their knowledge of dental traumatic injuries; most of this dentists, emergency professionals and dental nurses declared that it would be important to attend an education programme about traumatic dental injuries. Conclusion: Within the limitation of this study; it is reported that the knowledge and awareness on traumatic dental injuries of senior dental students of Çukurova University Faculty of Dentistry in 2016-2017 years was satisfying, but non-dental professionals were not satisfying. In this study, it was concluded that it would be important to attend education programs for health professionals about this issue.
