Amaç: Pterjiyum hastalarında gözyaşı menisküsünün sağlıklı bireyler ile ön segment optik koherens tomografi (ÖS-OKT) ile karşılaştırmak. Pterjiyum dokusunun gözyaşı menüsküsüne etkisini, klasik kuru göz testleri [Oküler Yüzey Hastalık İndeksi (OSDİ) anketi, gözyaşı kırılma zamanı, Schirmer I testi] ile karşılaştırarak ortaya koymak.

Objective: To compare the tear meniscus in patients with pterygium with healthy individuals using anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT). To reveal the effect of pterygium tissue on the tear meniscus by comparing it with classical dry eye tests [Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDİ) questionnaire, tear break-up time, Schirmer I test]. Material and Methods: The study was conducted as a single-center, prospective clinical trial. The study was prepared in accordance with the Declaration principle of Helsinki, and after the approval of the local ethics committee, the participants were informed and a consent form was obtained. One eye of 50 individuals with pterygium and 48 healthy individuals was included in the study. After the OSDİ questionnaire, tear meniscus measurement, tear break-up time and Schirmer I test were performed using AS-OCT. Results: No significant difference was found between the participants in the pterygium and control groups in terms of OSDİ questionnaire (p=0.515), tear meniscus height (p=0.489), depth (p=0.316) and area (p=0.067). However, tear meniscus measurements were lower in the pterygium group. Similarly, no statistically significant difference was found in terms of tear break-up time (p=0.481) and Schirmer I test (p=0.892). Conclusion: Detailed ocular clinical parameters of the participants in the pterygium and control groups were compared. The positive correlation of tear meniscus measurement with AS-OCT with classical dry eye tests was confirmed, and it was revealed that it may contribute to the relationship between pterygium tissue and tear meniscus.
