Objective: During the perimenopausal period, hormonal, physical and emotional changes occur in women due to the decrease in estrogen hormone, and these changes negatively affect women's quality of life and physical fitness. Accordingly, this study was planned to compare the physical fitness and quality of life between women in the perimenopausal period and women in the menstrual cycle. Material and Methods: In this study, 51 women with menstrual cycle [age 39 (35-47) years] and 51 women with perimenopausal period [age 48 (39- 50) years] who applied to the Pamukkale University Gynaecology and Obstetrics Policlinic and were determined to comply with the inclusion criteria a total of 102 women were included. The health-related physical fitness of the participants was assessed by Modifiye Fullerton Functional Fitness Test and the quality of life by Short Form-36 (SF-36). Results: When the values of women with perimenopausal period and menstrual cycle were compared; the difference between the six-minute walk subtest of Modified Fullerton Functional Fitness Test and the pain subtest of SF-36 were significant in favor of women with menstrual cycle (p<0.05). Conclusion: Compared to women in the menstrual cycle, women in the perimenopausal period were found to have reduced walking distance and lower pain subtest scores of SF-36 in the 6-minute walking test.
