Objective: To evaluate retinal microvascular changes after cataract surgery. Materials and Methods: Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) was performed before and one month after cataract surgery. The preoperative and postoperative foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area, superficial and deep capillary vascular densities (CVD) and intraocular pressures (IOP) were compared. Correlation between CVD change and IOP change was evaluated. Results: The preoperative FAZ area was 259±28 μm2 and 227±23 μm2 after surgery. The mean preoperative superficial foveal CVD (%) was 25.2±6.5 and 26.6±5.9 postoperatively, deep foveal CVD (%) was 43.1±3.8 preoperatively and 45.1±3.2 postoperatively. In both parafoveal and perifoveal regions, both superficial and deep CVDs significantly increased after surgery. The mean preoperative and postoperative IOPs were 16±0.9 and 14.9±0.8, respectively. There was no correlation between IOP change and superficial and deep CVD change. Conclusion: In the early period after cataract surgery, both superficial and deep CVDs increased at foveal, parafoveal and perifoveal regions according to OCT-A measurements and IOP decreased. Retinal microvascular changes did not correlate with the IOP change.
