Amaç: Bu çalışmada, Karabük ilinde kamu kurumunda, özel sektörde görev yapan diş hekimlerinin ve üniversitede görev yapan akademisyen diş hekimlerinin, ağız kanserlerinde teşhis, tedavi, bulgu ve semptomlar ile ilgili bilgi ve farkındalık düzeylerinin değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Bu çalışma, Karabük ilinde görev yapan, yaşları 23-70 yıl arasında değişen toplam 72 (32 kadın ve 40 erkek) diş hekiminin değerlendirilmesiyle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Katılımcılardan; sosyodemografik ve ağız kanseri teşhisi, tedavisi, predispozan faktörleri ve bulgular hakkında sorular içeren anketi doldurmaları istenmiştir (n=72). Sorulara verilen doğru ve yanlış yanıtlara göre farkındalık ve bilgi sahipliği düzeyleri değerlendirilmiştir. Elde edilen veriler, Student t-testi ve ki-kare testi ile analiz edilmiş olup, anlamlılık değeri p<0,05 ve p<0,001 olarak kabul edilmiştir. Bulgular: Katılımcılarda, ağız kanserinin teşhis, tedavi, semptom ve bulguları ile ilgili bilgi ve farkındalık oranı %54,2 olarak bulunmuştur. Mesleki çalışma süresi, diş hekimlerinin görev yaptıkları yerler, yaş, cinsiyet ve farkındalık seviyeleri arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı düzeyde farklar tespit edilmiştir. Sonuç: Karabük ilinde görev yapan diş hekimlerinin, ağız kanseri ile ilgili bilgi düzeyi ve farkındalık oranlarının orta seviyede olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ağız kanserlerinde erken teşhis oranının artırılması, mortalite ve morbidite yüzdelerinin düşürülmesi için hastalarda ve diş hekimlerinde, farkındalığın ve bilgi düzeyinin geliştirilmesi önemlidir.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of awareness and knowledge about diagnosis and treatment, signs and symptoms of oral cancers among dentints serving in public health institutions, private institutions and university in Karabük province. Material and Methods: This study was carried out with the evaluation of 72 (32 females and 40 males) dentists aged 23-70 years in Karabük. Participants were asked to fill a questionnaire including questions about sociodemographic and the diagnosis, treatment, predisposing factors and findings of oral cancers (n=72). Awareness and knowledge levels were evaluated according to the correct and incorrect answers given to the questions. The data were analyzed with Student's t-test and Chisquare tests and p<0.05 and p<0.001 were considered for the significance value. Results: The rate of knowledge and awareness about the diagnosis and treatment of oral cancers and its symptoms and findings was found to be 54.2%. Significant differences were determined between the occupational working time, the places where dentists work, age, gender and awareness levels. Conclusion: It was determined that the knowledge level and awareness of oral cancer among the dentists in Karabük province was moderate. It is important to raise awareness and knowledge in patients and dentists in order to increase the rate of early diagnosis and decrease the mortality and morbidity rates in oral cancers.
