Objective: The aim of this study is to compare the strength and strength balance of the knee joint flexor and extensor muscles in female and male volleyball players. Material and Methods: Our study was performed with 18 first league volleyball players. The isokinetic muscle strength of the athletes was evaluated with IsoMed 2000 isokinetic dynamometer as concentric-concentric at 60°/sec and 180°/sec angular velocity. Results: Statistically significant differences were found between peak torque and relative peak torque values of flexor and extensor muscles of dominant side of male and female athletes at 60°/sec and 180°/sec angular velocities and female athletes were found to be weaker than male athletes. It was found that the flexor and extensor muscle strength ratios of the dominant side of the female and male athletes at of 60°/sec and 180°/s angular velocities were similar, and this ratio the non-dominant side was different from each other and was higher in female athletes. Conclusion: At the beginning of our study, a female volleyball athlete was found to be weaker than male volleyball athletes, and the balance of muscle strength was determined to be normal in both genders and at the two angular velocity. The fact that female athletes in the literature have higher rate of injury in the knee joint compared to male athletes we thought it may occur the result of weaker muscle strength of female athletes. However, muscle strength balance may not be a very important reagent.
