Preterm bebeklerde emme, yutma, nefes alma döngüsünün birbiriyle eş zamanlı çalışamaması ve bu çoklu sistemlerin kontrol edilememesi, yutma ve solunum işlevlerinin ortak alanda bulunması gibi nedenlerle beslenme güçlüğü, yetersiz kalori alımı, gelişim geriliği, taburculuk süresinin uzaması ve bakım yükü ile birlikte maliyetin artması olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Erken doğan bebeklerde yeterli besin ve kalori açığının kapanması, hem büyüme geriliğini ve pretermliğe bağlı ölümleri önemli ölçüde azaltmakta hem de yatış süresini kısaltmaktadır. Geçmişte yenidoğanların beslenmesi, stres kaynakları göz önünde bulundurulmadan sadece alınan besin miktarı ile değerlendirilirken; günümüzde, bebeğin beslenme sırasında verdiği ipuçlarını takip ederek davranışsal tepkilerini yorumlama ve bebeğin beslenme becerilerini geliştirmeye odaklı ipucu temelli beslenme yaklaşımı benimsenmektedir. Bu çalışmada, preterm bebeklerin kanıta dayalı oral beslenme yöntemlerden birisi olan ipucu temelli beslenme modeli sunulmuştur.

The problems such as feeding difficulties, insufficient caloric intake, developmental delay, prolonged discharge time, the care burden and increased costs in preterm infants arise because of the non-simultaneous sucking, swallowing and breathing cycle, inability to control these multiple systems and the presence of swallowing and respiratory function in the common area. To ensure adequate nutrient and calorie deficit in premature babies reduce both growth retardation and mortality caused from prematurity and also shorten the time of hospitalization. In the past, the feeding of newborns was evaluated only by the amount of nutrients taken, without considering the sources of stress; today, however, a cue-based feding approach is adopted, focusing on improving the feeding skills of the baby by interpreting the behavioral responses of the baby and following the cues given by the baby during the feeding. In this review article presents a cue-based feeding model, which is one of the evidence- based oral feeding methods in preterm infants.
