Objective: To analyse the retinal layers using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) in patients with hypermetropic anisometropic amblyopia and to compare amblyopic eyes with normal eyes. Material and Methods: Following detailed ophthalmological examination, both eyes of the participants with hypermetropic anisometropic amblyopia were evaluated by OCT. After the analysis of central macular thickness (CMT), mean thicknesses of ganglion cell layer, inner plexiform layer, inner nuclear layer, outer plexiform layer, outer nuclear layer and retinal pigment epithelium layer were recorded. The retinal layers were further divided into two layers as inner and outer retinal layers. Results: The mean age of 20 (33.3%) female and 40 (66.7%) male patients with hypermetropic anisometropic amblyopia was 17,3±9.0 years. The mean CMT was 270.30±18.15 µm in amblyopic eyes and 265.1±19.25 µm in normal eyes. In amblyopic eyes, CMT was found to be statistically significantly thicker in amblyopic eyes than normal eyes (p0.05, for each). Conclusion: The central macula was significantly thicker in amblyopic eyes than in normal eyes in patients with hypermetropic anisometropic amblyopia, but there were no statistically significant differences between the retinal layer thicknesses.
