Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the acceptance and hesitancy of the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) vaccine in nurses. Material and Methods: The descriptive research was completed with 245 nurses employed in different units Ordu University Education-Research Hospital from 11-22 January 2021. Before beginning the research, permission was granted by the Provincial Directorate of Health and ethics committee, and verbal consent was obtained from nurses. Data collection used the 'Information Form related to Sociodemographic and Working Life' and the 'Opinion Form related to COVID-19 and Vaccine'. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 statistical program with descriptive statistics and chi-square test. Results: Among the nurses, 13.5% worked in units related to COVID-19, 94% stated they had not received flu vaccines and, 24% of nurses had been infected with COVID-19 disease. 40% reported they were hesitancy about having the COVID-19 vaccine and, 14.3% of the nurses participating in the study stated that they did not think of getting the COVID-19 vaccine. In terms of vaccines, 69% of nurses stated they did not have sufficient information about the COVID-19 vaccine, 81% were concerned about side effects and 77% about the uncertain effect duration, 60.8% considered there were uncertainties about quality control of the vaccine, 55% stated they were afraid due to side effects and other negative news in the media and 59.6% believed the vaccine was produced in a hurry without evidence-based tests. There were significant correlations between nurse acceptance of COVID-19 vaccine with the unit of employment, receiving flu vaccines, receiving vaccinations recommended by the Ministry of Health, COVID-19 infection and fear of COVID-19 (p<0.05). Conclusion: In the study, it was determined that more than half of nurses experienced hesitancy about, or intended to reject, the COVID-19 vaccine. It is recommended that studies be performed about preventing vaccine hesitancy and rejection to ensure the success of future vaccination programs, to increase vaccine acceptance and to protect the health of health employees and the public.
