As the use of smartphones with the latest technology has increased over time, various applications have been developed to facilitate the personal activities of individuals in various fields, including the healthcare sector. Mobile applications developed for healthcare industry have many benefits, such as transformation of information, ease of patient access to information, patient motivation, and monitoring of patient activity and compliance by the physician. Mobile health applications also have effects in improving the quality of life of individuals. Mobile applications have been considered as an important tool in changing people's health-related behaviors, as well as improving and changing people's unhealthy habits. Besides all these advantages, some applications may also have disadvantages, such as missing or incorrect information due to the unregulated content. The use of mobile applications in dentistry has also been increased. Today, many applications are used to motivate oral hygiene, provide plaque control, orthodontic treatment follow-up, and diagnose and follow-up of dental trauma. The aim of this study was to review the current literature about the use of mobile applications in dentistry.
