Objective: The aim of this study is to examine the technical quality of root canal treatments on periapical radiographs performed by 5th grade dental students in Selçuk University Faculty of Dentistry Endodontic Clinic between 2018-2019. In this way, in root canal treatments performed by dental students; to detect iatrogenic errors and to examine the possible causes of these errors and to contribute to improving the quality of treatment. Material and Methods: Root canal treatments are considered as technically sufficient-successful provided that the distance between the root canal filling length and the radiological apex is 0-2 mm, the root canal filling is both homogeneous and having sufficient taper angle and the tooth doesn't contain any iatrogenic defects. The statistical evaluation of the relationship between root canal filling quality and tooth groups is done by using the chi-square test (p=0.050). It is also taken into consideration that root canal is curved or straight. Results: Acceptable root canal filling has been observed in 780 (63.2%) teeth out of 1,235. Teeth in the maxilla (67.8%) have been found to be more successful than teeth in the mandible (58%), and the success of molar teeth in both jaws (47%) has been found to be less than the teeth in the anterior (84.9%) and premolar (80.8%) area. Iatrogenic error has been observed in 13.5% of the total number of teeth. It has been observed that the rate of iatrogenic error in curvature root canals is increased and the rate of adequate root canal filling is decreased. Conclusion: According to our study, the most important factors affecting the radiographic technical quality of root canal treatments are; the localization of the tooth in the mouth and the curvature of the root canals were found.
