Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of the pandemic process on the fatigue levels of the anesthesiology and reanimation doctors and nurses working in the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) intensive care unit (ICU) and the factors affecting it. Material and Methods: Anesthesiology and reanimation specialists, assistants and nurses working in the 3rd level ICU were included in the study. In the study, the sociodemographic data of the participants, the characteristics of the work environment and general health status, the Compassion Fatigue-Short Scale (CFSS) and the Chalder Fatigue Scale (CFS), were sent to the participants via the prepared Google form, WhatsApp or e-mail. Results: A total of 109 participants working in the ICU (thirty-two anesthesiology and reanimation doctors and 77 nurses) were included in the statistical analysis. Overtime working hours of assistant doctors and nurses were significantly higher than those of specialist doctors (p<0.001). It was determined that 45% of the participants in the study had COVID-19. CF-SS total scores were higher in residents than nurses (p=0.002). While physical fatigue was detected in all participants according to CFS, mental fatigue was present in 89 (81.7%) participants. In addition, it was determined that having sleep problems increased all subtests and total scores of both scales (p<0.001). Conclusion: During the pandemic, it was found that the anesthesiology and reanimation doctors and nurses working in the ICU were exposed to the number of shifts and sleep problems with overtime hours. Evaluating the health personnel working in the ICU in terms of chronic fatigue and compassion fatigue, and improving working conditions may be beneficial in increasing the quality of life and work efficiency of the employees.
