Amaç: Okul öncesi dönemdeki ve okul çağındaki kekemeliği olan bireylerde dil ve konuşma değerlendirmesi, dil gelişim düzeyinin ve terapi yönteminin belirlenmesinde oldukça önemlidir. Çocukların yaşı arttıkça, değerlendirmede kullanılan her yöntem önemli bilgiler sağlamaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, 4-10 yaşları arasında Türkçe konuşan, kekemeliği olan çocuklarda, morfeme göre ortalama sözce uzunluğu (OSU) ile kekelenen hece yüzdesi ve kekemeliğin başlangıcından beri geçen süre (kekemelik süresi) arasındaki ilişkiyi araştırmaktır. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Bu çalışmaya, 16 kekemeliği olan birey dâhil edilmiştir. Çocukların, yapılandırılmış oyun esnasında alınan konuşma kayıtları çözümlenerek OSU ve kekelenen hece yüzdeleri belirlenmiştir. Ardından sahip olmaları gereken OSU (hesaplanan OSU/H-OSU) ve kestirilen yaş bilgileri bulunmuştur. Bulgular: H-OSU ile kestirilen OSU (K-OSU) arasındaki fark (F-OSU) ile kekelenen hece yüzdeleri arasında, kekelenen hece yüzdeleri ile kekemelik süresi arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmamıştır. Elde edilen H-OSU ortalama değerlerinin, K-OSU ortalama değerlerinden düşük olduğu ve kronolojik yaşların ortalamasının, kestirilen yaşların ortalamasından ise yüksek olduğu ve bu farkların istatistiksel olarak anlamlı olduğu bulunmuştur. Sonuç: Standart testlere göre yaşına uygun dil gelişimine sahip olduğu belirlenen katılımcılarda, H-OSU değerleri norm değerlerin altında bulunmuştur. Daha kapsamlı çalışmalara ihtiyaç olmakla birlikte, kekemeliği olan bireylerde OSU hesaplanmasından da yararlanılabileceği düşünülmüştür.

Objective: Speech and languages assessment is very important in determining the language development and therapy method in preschool and school-aged children who stutter. As the age of the children increases, every method used in the assessment provides important informations. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between the mean length of utterance (MLU) in morphemes, the percentage of stuttered syllables and stuttering duration in Turkish children aged 4-10 years who stutter. Material and Methods: 16 children who stutter were included in this study. Videos of all participants were recorded during the structured game, and MLU (C-MLU) and the percentage of stuttered syllables are calculated. Then, predicted ages and MLU (P-MLU) that they should have are calculated. Results: There were no statistically significant relationships between 1) D-MLU and the percentage of stuttered syllables. 2) The percentage of stuttered syllables and stuttering duration. It was found that the mean of C-MLU were lower than the mean of P-MLU and these differences were statistically significant. Conclusion: C-MLUs were below the norms in the children whose language development was determined according to the standard tests to be typical revealed. Although more extensive studies are needed, it is thought that it may be beneficial to include the calculation of MLU in people with stuttering into the evaluation.
