Objective: Sprint performance is an important performance component in football. Ensuring neural activation during the sprint directly affects force production. In the literature, it is known that the kinesio tape affects the neural pathways. However, this difference in effect between the facilitation and inhibition technique and its application is unclear. For this reason, it is aimed to examine the acute effect of kinesio taping method applied to the m.gastrocnemius muscle with the inhibition technique on the performance components of the repeated sprint test (RST). Material and Methods: Fifteen healthy male football players (age: 14.8±0.9, body height: 170.5±58.2 cm; body weight: 61.0±10 kg) who regularly practice football at least 2 days a week, were included in the study. Within the scope of the study, 6×40 m RST was applied at 48 hour intervals on 2 different measurement days. On the first measurement day, the athletes applied 6×40 m RST control measurements at maximal effort, on the second measurement day, kinesio taping applied to the m.gastrocnemius muscle with the inhibition technique and 6×40 m RST were applied and the measurements were completed. As a result, the best sprint time, the worst sprint time, the average sprint time and the sprint drop % were determined. A standard warm-up protocol was applied before the measurements on both test days. The ttest was used for dependent groups to examine the difference between the variables obtained from the RST, and the post-hoc test was used to see where the difference between the analyzes originated. Results: The worst sprint time (p=0.012, Cohen d: 0.31) and sprint reduction percentage values (p=0.018, Cohen d: 0.66) obtained from 6×40 m TST before and after kinesio taping on the m.gastrocnemius muscle of the athletes) a statistically significant difference was found. Conclusion: It is seen that kinesio taping applied to the last m.gastrocnemius muscle with the inhibition technique affects sprint performance negatively.
